The Paseo Ribeira in Baiona is home to a true historical and tourist treasure: the Tile of the Arribada. This impressive set of arches adorned with commemorative elements that transports us to the date of the Discovery of America. On the façade facing the beach, we can admire a tile mosaic that represents a detailed map of the routes followed by the caravels La Niña and La Pinta, which arrived in Baiona, on their historic journey back to Spain. This magnificent tile was generously donated by the talented artist Moisés Álvarez to the City Council of Baiona in September 1962.
On the other side of the arches, we are greeted by an iron anchor and a tile offered by the town of Palos de la Frontera, symbolizing affection and fraternity in commemoration of the half millennium of the arrival of La Pinta and to the town of Baiona. These elements add a special and significant touch to this wonderful space.
The Arrival Tile is composed of carefully placed one hundred and eighty tiles, representing the routes followed by Martín Alonso Pinzón and Christopher Columbus aboard the caravels Pinta and Niña on their return from the discovery. These routes led these historic vessels to Bayona and Lisbon, respectively. This fascinating ensemble is part of the Pinzonian Route, an itinerary full of discoveries and adventures that we invite you to explore.
