Frades Beach in Baiona

Baiona, Playa de los Frades

"Dos Frades" Beach in Baiona is located at the foot of Monte Boi, on its western side, from where you can admire the Atlantic Ocean and the Cíes Islands.

"Frades," in Galician, means friars, and this is where the beach gets its name. It was the spot where the friars from the Franciscan convent, housed within the Monterreal fortress, used to bathe. Near the beach, you can still see the gate in the wall where they used to exit, although the convent disappeared in the mid-19th century.

It is a small, rocky beach with coarse sand made up of tiny shell fragments. Although it is close to Baiona's town center, it could be said that it is one of the wildest beaches in the municipality.

Pets on the beach

In Baiona's beaches, pets are welcome all year round. During the summer months, in June, July, and August, dogs can continue to enjoy the beach, but only from 10:00 PM to 9:00 AM. Both in winter and summer, their owners must keep them on a leash, as in the rest of the public spaces in the municipality. Next to the beach, there is a dog park.
